Parents at a Richmond school just a minute’s walk from Melbourne’s new safe injecting room are calling for increased security.

North Richmond Community Health Service will be located a minutes walk from Richmond West Primary School, raising safety concerns for parents.

The Herald Sun reports some parents are considering pulling their children from the school with concerns the room will bring more drug users to the area.

Petitions are circulating asking the government to find a new locations for the room.

"The facility is necessary and required, but putting it 30 metres from the front gate of a school ground seems one of the most insane moves a government could make," one parent told media yesterday.

However the school says they are happy to support the initiative – saying they are confident the facility will help keep drug use off the streets.
