The border debate continues

It's no secret that the majority of West Australians are pretty content with how the Covid-19 pandemic has been handled over here.

We've had strict border controls in place for months now and, for the most part, it's been highly effective in keeping the virus from spreading in WA.

The talk now is what's happening with border controls, with particular regard to returning West Australians.

We've got a case here at mix94.5, a work colleague needs to be in the Ukraine in a month's time to pick up his surrogate baby and return home, and our colleague has no idea on whether he'll be able to actually get back and if so, will he be allowed in?

We put that to Mark McGowan. Just one of the probable many cases where compassionate grounds should arguably come into play.

"That's a very serious situation obviously. To get a baby is obviously a very important thing.

Obviously someone like that is a very, very special case, so I just urge them to make their case known, especially to the federal authorities that control the borders, and make sure that they have a route in."

His chat in full is mainly about what we're doing with the borders and what is the next step in order to open up WA to the world again. There's also a bit of banter about high school reunions, seeing we're holding a massive party at the Newport.

Who knows, the Premier might actually come along? He said he wanted to.

LISTEN: IN FULL:

As always, we thank the Premier for his time.
