A man's been charged for allegedly pointing a laser at aircraft flying over Eastlakes.

The pilot of a Cessna called police after being targeted around 11:30pm on Sunday night, with a police chopper called to the scene - which was also laser beamed.

Police tracked a man to Eastlakes Reserve, arresting a 19-year-old man and seizing a laser pointer found nearby.

The man was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with act to threaten safety of aircraft and persons on board, and possessing or using a prohibited weapon without permit.

He was refused bail to appear in Central Local Court on Monday.
