The alleged theft of two trailers has resulted in charges for a Manoora man on the weekend.

Police received a report on Friday afternoon that a box trailer was stolen on the side of Reservoir Road at Kanimbla sometime between Thursday night and Friday afternoon. The trailer was being used as an electoral campaign advertising billboard at the time of the theft.

Investigations led police to an Enmore Street address at Manoora at around 9pm on Saturday, where a trailer was located and seized. The campaign signage had been removed from the trailer and has not been located.

Further inquiries led detectives to a Pease Street address shortly afterward where they spoke with a 56-year-old Manoora man. Whilst present at the address, detectives located a small camper type trailer in the yard. Subsequent inquiries indicated that it had been stolen from an Edmonton address on Friday. The owner was unaware of the theft until contacted by police.

The man was issued with a notice to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on April 16, where he is expected to face two counts of stealing.

Police do not believe that the theft of the first trailer was politically motivated.
