The hunt is on for a man wanted in connection to a series of attempted carjackings in Mayfield.

A would-be thief tried and failed to steal a man's car after threatening the 20-year-old with a screwdriver on Maitland Road at around 11am last night.

While a taxi driver was also threatened with a screwdriver after driving a man from Maitland Road to Industrial Drive at around 1.30am this morning.

It's claimed a struggle broke out after the armed man demanded cash - he's then fallen out of the cab and run off.

While a 32-year-old who'd parked outside a convenience store on Maitland Road at around 2.15am has been left wounds to his neck and head after a man threatened him with a screwdriver.

The pair were involved in a struggle after the thief demanded his keys - however he eventually took off empty-handed. 

He's described as of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, aged between 25 to 30, 168cm tall, and of slim build.
