Local MPs have hit out at George Christensen over allegations he spent more time overseas than in his electorate last year. Reports emerged that the Member for Dawson spent almost three hundred days in the Philippines during a four year period. Labor has said for two years in a row he was in Manila for more days than he was in Federal Parliament Mr Christensen is yet to make a public statement.

Mackay Council is worried people haven’t been given enough information on proposed state-wide local Government changes. Discussing proposals for compulsory preferential voting in the regular meeting yesterday they said the change would lead to an increase in “donkey votes.” They are concerned there was limited public consultation and have said they will actively move to promote the changes to residents.

Rain is an all too common sight in Mackay this year it seems but today it has even more importance as we mark two years since Tropical Cyclone Debbie. The Category four storm made landfall on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 causing widespread damage and flooding. Today many residents are still recovering and Council are hoping to reach out. There will be public feedback sessions at Sarina Range, Koumala and Eton so head to the Council website to find out more.
