A man will appear in court on Sunday following a police pursuit near Port Macquarie this morning.

About 3.25am today, officers from Mid North Coast Police District stopped a grey Ford Falcon sedan on the Oxley Highway near Wauchope, for a random breath test.

Police will allege while the driver initially stopped, he refused to co-operate with police and a pursuit was initiated when he accelerated away.

Road spikes were successfully deployed by police on Gordon Street, however the vehicle continued along various streets in the Port Macquarie CBD until it finally came to a stop at the intersection of Hay Street and Sunset Parade, outside Port Macquarie Police Station.

The 32-year-old man was arrested and taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital for mandatory testing.

He was then taken to Port Macquarie Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, not produce licence, not comply P1 licence – no P plates, throw object onto roadway, and drive manner dangerous.

He was refused bail to appear at Port Macquarie Local Court.
