Potable water available in Rankins Springs

Council is pleased to announce the new water treatment plant and reticulation system for the Rankins Springs Village has been completed.

For the first time in the town's history, Rankins Springs Village has a local source of drinking water. Mayor Peter Laird said that in the past, Rankins Springs Village has had to rely on bottled water or raw water sources, such as bore water.

"Having fresh drinking water straight from the tap is something that most communities take for granted, and is of particular importance in times of high demand", said Cr Laird.

The water treatment plant has been designed to cater to the present and future population growth with residents encouraged to connect to the new potable water scheme.

This project was funded by the NSW Government's Restart NSW Water Security for Regions Program and included construction of a new plant to treat bore and channel water, installation of a reticulation system to supply clean drinking water to the community and repairing and reconstructing the town's main storage dam to ensure the security of the water supply.

Member for Murray Austin Evans congratulated Council on completion of the new water treatment plant and reticulation system, saying the NSW Government was proud to have funded the $1.2 million project.

"We are committed to funding infrastructure which helps regional communities access clean and reliable drinking water," Mr Evans said.

"Through improved water access, the Rankins Springs village is prepared for future drought conditions and in a better position to grow the local population and the local economy."
