A 25-year-old Potts Point woman was charged after a security officer at a Cairns restaurant was allegedly assaulted this morning (June 14).

It will be alleged just after midnight a woman was asked to leave a Pier Point Road restaurant and refused to do so.

Police will further allege that a security guard, escorting the woman from the bar area, was hit in the face before being spat on. Police arrived, arresting the woman and transporting her to the Cairns Watchhouse.

During a search police allegedly located cannabis and a grinder. She was charged with one count each of fail to leave licenced premise, common assault, serious assault, possessing dangerous drugs and possess utensils.

The 25-year-old woman was bailed and will appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on June 30.
