A Russian man has been spotted this week running along the Sturt Highway towards Mildura in 46 degree temperatures.

Ruslan Shakin has completed more than two-thirds of a self-imposed challenge to run from Perth to Sydney, via Mt Kosciuszko.

He has refused to take any rest days since departing Perth on November 19, and left Mildura bound for Albury on Thursday night.

The journey isn’t beyond his abilities, Ruslan having previously ran the length of Japan from north to south.

He also intends to run across New Zealand.

Ruslan decided to run across Australia on behalf of Charity: Water, and he deliberately chose the summer season to run in, so he could feel thirsty.

Half of the money he raises from his journey will be donated to clean water projects in Africa.
