USQ will celebrate the achievements of women and girls with a number of events for Queensland Women’s Week and International Women’s Day.
USQ Vice-Chancellor Professor Janet Verbyla said the activities at the University would recognise the achievements of women and girls in the community and workplace.
“It is an opportunity to reaffirm that everyone has a role to play in creating a supportive and inclusive environment where all people have an equal opportunity to succeed,” Professor Verbyla said.
“USQ is proud to be the host of a key event on our Toowoomba campus during the celebrations with the USQ Shine High Tea on Wednesday (March 8).”
Other activities include the International Women’s Day Breakfast on Wednesday (March 8) at USQ Toowoomba hosted by the USQ Women’s Network.
As part of the 2017 Research Seminar Series, the USQ Women’s Network will also present an International Women’s Day panel on ‘Rethinking the Global Gender Agenda’.
Last year USQ was awarded a Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) Employer of Choice for Gender Equality Citation in recognition of strong commitment to gender equality in the workplace.
Professor Verbyla said over a number of years, much work had been undertaken at USQ to lay the foundation for the recognition of gender equality and pay equity as a priority within the University’s diversity and inclusion strategies, and the principles of that work continued to be embedded into the day-to-day operations going forward.
