R U OK Day is upon us again today and it’s an opportunity for all of us to turn to those closest to us and check in on their mental welfare – because despite appearances, they may be struggling, and a simple conversation could save someone’s life. In this case, it was Leisel Jones’.

Speaking this afternoon on Triple M’s Rush Hour the three-time Olympic gold medalist lifted the lid on the day she nearly took her life on an altitude training camp in Spain.

“It just got to that point where I was sitting on a bathroom floor, I just could think about anything else other than leaving, to be really frank, in a body bag”

Jones has battled with mental health issues throughout her storied swimming career and this afternoon as opportunity to explain what is needed by those who may be struggling to have the conversation.
