Raising money for Anger Management, the Esperance Yacht team

Esperance enjoys being represented on the world stage, and a team of yachts-people and their support staff plan to do exactly that in the biggest boating race in Australia this Boxing day, at the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race!

Tim Stewart is the skipper of Anger Management and he says the team have the sights set on Sydney come December. He spoke to Sean on the Triple M breakfast show on Wednesday July 25.

"It's been on the bucket list of the guys for quite a while and it looks like we're going to do it"

It isn't a simple process preparing for the race, especially coming from an isolated location like Esperance. Not only is their intense training to compete against the troublesome swells but other logistical hurdles that need to be surpassed. 

"There's an awful lot that goes into it and I'm we started a couple months ago," Tim said. "We need to get the boat prepared, and their certainly is a couple qualifying passages. Most of us have done a sea survival course, we're doing our radio operating certificate and a lot of off-the-boat type training"

The on-water training starts in August and includes a mammoth four week sail from Esperance to Sydney, the only way to get the boat to the starting line. 

Traversing the Great Australian Bite is approximately the same distance as the Sydney to Hobart route. 

Despite the extensive preparation, the Skipper is delighted for himself and his team to compete. 

"there will be a lot of nervousness and a lot of excitement and then come Christmas day I don't think anyone will be able to sleep, we will be wide-awake waiting for it to unfold."

It takes ample fundraising to make the race happen for the yacht team, and a Sunday Acoustic Session is happening this Sunday July 29 to help Anger Management's cause. 

Ten percent of all bar sails on the day will go to the team, with other raffles available to help raise some funds for the cause. 

Sunday Acoustic Sessions is happening at the Esperance Bay Yacht Club, at 3pm and stars Franzone, Kyza, Bec Shultz, Laura Petrie and Mel and Michael.
