Triple M's No Talk Day

Last year for No Talk Day, we heard from the men of Triple M Adelaide in this special podcast Real Men Can Talk.

This episode features Rush Hour host and AFL legend for Adelaide and Melbourne, Bernie Vince.

Between broadcasting the Rush Hour across Adelaide and raising two kids with his wife Abbie, it's fair to say that Bernie is a busy man.

So it's not surprising when he reveals that he doesn't often stop to reflect on it.

"This is a bad stigma for the blokes," Bernie said, "But if I show a sign of weakness, what's that going to do to everyone at home?"

Despite Bernie inheriting his father's "she'll be right" mentality, he admits self reflection is where he could get better.

"Self-assessment is probably more important than anything," he said.

What has ultimately helped Bernie to slow down and reflect is meditation.

"Meditation is something that was introduced to me while I was playing for Melbourne, and it's something I continued after I left," he said.

"Even though you don't know it you actually are reflecting a little bit while you're doing it."

Whether it's dealing with his own mental health, or supporting his mates, Bernie knows it can't be ignored.

"if you don't deal with these things right [mental health] it can have some severe consequences."

Listen to hear Bernie Vince discuss mental health here:

Monday 4 July is No Talk Day where Triple M dedicates their stations to conversations about mental health.

From 6am to 6pm, there’s no radio shows, no ads, no news and no traffic reports. Just personal stories, information and advice on talking to a mate about mental health.
