Applications for Victorians to access Canberra's special COVID disaster payments, opened Tuesday morning, but there are lots of catches.

Canberra will provide up to $500 per week to people affected by the recent Victorian lockdown, however, not all Victorians affected are eligible.

If you lost 20 hours a week you will get $325 while losing more work will get you $500.

The scheme only applies to people who have been locked down for more than seven days, regional Victorians are not eligible, and there are further loopholes.

Applications for COVID disaster payments are open

Any Victorian who already receives payments covered by the Social Security (Administration) Act 1999, or found another job, or took reduced hours during the lockdown will miss out.

Victorians with more than $10,000 in the bank, or the same value in shares are also ineligible.

Each Victorian must prove their loss of income, to be considered for the relief payments.

The temporary COVID disaster payment will be rolled out nationally for any people who lose work in any state or territory that goes into a lockdown longer than seven days.
