Rockhampton Weekend Events To Change Venues Due To Rain Forecast
All you need to know
The Mayor's Carols by Candelight and A Day To Say Thank You have been relocated to indoor venues due to the rain forecast this weekend.
Carols by Candelight has moved from Rockhampton Music Bowl to the Robert Schwarten Pavilion at the Rockhampton Showgrounds and A Day To Say Thank You will move from Cedric Archer Park to Gracemere Community Hall.
Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said that the change of venue would ensure the safety and comfort of those attending the events.
“The weather forecasts tell us that we could be in for strong winds and rain over the weekend. We have held off making this decision as long as we could to see if the forecast changed but we need to allow time to let people know,” she said.
“Concertgoers will be pleased to know that it will be the same show that was planned for the Music Bowl, complete with food and market stalls, a visit from Santa and – depending on how the weather plays out on the night - the ever popular fireworks,” she said.
“A Day To Say Thank You will still see free food for our heroes, a range of food vans, face painting, balloon animals and more. As to whether our community’s wonderful classic cars can come out – that really depends on the weather on the day!
“We are of course disappointed to have to move away from the original locations, but we want to make sure everyone is safe and comfortable when enjoying these events.”
Mayor’s Carols by Candlelight will now be held at the Robert Schwarten Pavilion at the Rockhampton Showgrounds this Saturday (15 December) from 7pm. Parking is available via Gate 8 (corner Lion Creek Road and New Exhibition Rd). Pedestrian access via Gate 2 (Exhibition Rd).
Food and market stalls from 5pm. Entry by donation to this year’s charity, Legacy.
