Newly announced Adelaide Crows co-captain Rory Sloane has highlighted three key backs set to have a big season in 2019.

The Adelaide Crows highlighted their need for strong key defenders as a key pillar to returning to finals footy in 2019.

Speaking on Triple M Adelaide this afternoon, co-captain Rory Sloane told Jars & Louie that three teammates in particular have put their hands up to bookend the Crows defence this season after completing strong preseasons.

Sloane told Jars and Louie he expected Tom Doedee to again improve upon his impressive 2018 season, as well as highlighting the preseason form of Alex Keith and veteran Andy Otten.

"He (Alex Keith) is one who has been playing really well down back," Sloane said.

"Tom Doedee is looking even bigger and stronger - so he's put on some size over preseason.

"Andy Otten has been training well over summer. He's so competitive, the boys hate playing on him."
