Adelaide Crows co-captain Rory Sloane has opened up on teammate Hugh Greenwood's close encounter with a shark on Tuesday afternoon.

Former US College basketball player turned Adelaide Crows gun Hugh Greenwood made the most of his day off training yesterday by hitting the surf off Port Noarlunga.

However the midfielder's surf session was interrupted by a six-foot long shark, and Greenwood's teammate Rory Sloane revealed to Jars & Louie on Triple M Adelaide this afternoon just how close he came to the shark.

"He came quite close, he reckons, to what he thought was a little Bronzie (Bronze Whaler)," Sloane said.

"They saw it surface right next to them, and he and KJ (Greenwood's girlfriend) got out of the water pretty quick after that."

Sloane went on to reveal that Greenwood stopped a group of around 50 school kids entering the same stretch of water.
