Naracoorte Police are advising local business owners to be aware of attempts to pass or swap counterfeit money today in Naracoorte.

Police are aware of three local businesses who were approached on Tuesday 18 July, by a man who wanted to swap 20 x $100 notes ($2000 ) for $50 notes.  An employee became suspicious at one incident and went to check, when the male became impatient and left the money, which ended up to be counterfeit notes, behind.

The male suspect is described as middle eastern appearance between 25-35-years-old, wearing a dark jumper and trousers, blue beanie and black shoes.

Police investigating the incident may release CCTV images of the suspect at a later date.

Police recommend that anyone accepting money especially large banknotes, check the texture of the note, other in-built security features and printing.

To determine if a suspect note is counterfeit, it is best to compare it with a note that is known to be genuine.
