Seven Day A Week Trading for the Southern Downs

There are calls from the Southern Downs to lock down ‘seven day a week’ trading in the region.

The regions Mayor believes the economy would receive a major boost if visitors to the region could shop seven days a week.

A hearing is underway in Toowoomba reviewing trading hours for Warwick and Stanthorpe.

Southern Downs Mayor Tracy Dobie says a change would make sense.

“While there are a number of shops that do open on weekends our major traders that are in our shopping malls are not open of a weekend and that’s something that we, as a council, would like to encourage. 

Our two major population centres being Warwick and Stanthorpe have a lot of visitors on weekends and the number of visitors is growing.”
