Townsville City Council's 2018 Carols by Candlelight is heading to the suburbs with a more relaxed tropical summer Christmas theme.

Moving away from the big top at Reid Park, the event will now be at Riverway Stadium with SAND being brought in to make the tropical transformation complete.

Santa may even have to slip out of his big red jacket and slide into singlet, shorts, and thongs for the event on Sunday afternoon.

Santa isn't the only big name who will be on the stage either...Play School presenter Justine Clarke is the headline act!

Just last week Justine took home the 2018 ARIA award for Best Children's Album, and now she'll be sharing the spotlight with Santa in Townsville.

Also entertaining you at Carols by Candlelight will be solo artists, duos, Townsville Choral Society Choir, the always awesome 1RAR band, and many more.

Don't go nuts hunting for a car park though, free parking will be available at 1300SMILES Stadium with a Park’N’Ride travelling to Riverway every 15 minutes to help manage traffic into the area.

The free festive fun starts at 5pm this Sunday, wrapping up around 9pm and full details are at this Facebook link

The Bureau has predicted showers for Sunday, so keep listening to 102.3 Triple M for whether that will impact the Carols by Candlelight celebrations.
