English cricket legend Sir Ian Botham says that Cricket Australia should reach out to Allan Border to help change the culture in the side.
“There’s a guy sitting in Queensland who I think was the man who transformed Australian cricket back in the '80s when we beat you against all the odds,” Botham said.
“Allan Border drew a line in the sand and said, ‘That’s it. You’re going go to sleep with that baggy [green] hat on, you’re going to respect it and we’re going to play tough, the Poms aren’t your friends anymore… it’s going to be hard, hard cricket’.
“He literally changed Australian cricket in a very short period of time.
“At the moment they need someone that’s been there and done it, and done it the hard way.
“Allan Border’s one of the toughest competitors that I ever played against and he knows the game inside out.
“I’m amazed that they’re all sitting back and talking about all these other people, when you’ve got the best of the best just sitting in Brisbane doing nothing.”
Sir Ian also discussed his wine range, how India will go against Australia, and how funny he finds the new-look “nice” Australian team.
