A skull fragment found on a busy Mackay beach has been identified. Queensland Police have said the forensic lab discovered the bone is more than a hundred years old and belonged to an unknown Aboriginal person. The skull fragment was found on Australia Day on Smalleys Beach.

Mere days out from opening day the Mackay Aquatic and Recreation Complex boss has stepped down. Manager Brett Watton resigned from his role last Thursday but the resignation won't disrupt the planned opening. The company assigned to run the complex has released a statement saying they're actively recruiting for Mr. Watton’s replacement. Mackay ARC will open to the public on Sunday.

A Mackay Schoolgirl has been crowned Miss Teen Australia International for 2019. 14yr old Madison Dowden was jointly crowned alongside an eighteen year old from New South Wales. Rather than focus on beauty, this contest claims to emphasise the talents, accomplishments,  personalities and participants contributions to society. Madison will now head to the USA in July to continue competing.

AFL Queensland has announced Mackay will host the a women’s series match. The Gold Coast Suns and Brisbane Lions women's teams will come to town on the 23rd June. Teams in the Winer Series will be made up of current and prospective AFLW players.
