The Kalgoorlie Sub Branch of St John Ambulance are holding an Open Day January 19 at their base 562 Hannan Street.

The day will include a SIMEX ( Simulated exercise) featuring commentary on how the emergency services work together at an incident. The day is interactive with many stalls all offering games and chances to win prizes, there is a market stall with food vendors as well as a jumping castle, face painter and dunk tank. Kura the Bear (St Johns Mascot) will also visiting on the day! Its also the chance to talk to paramedics and go inside the depot to see how it all works. If you ever considered being a volunteer there will be information around on what it takes.

Community Paramedic Gavin Avery gives us further details:

"St John wants to engage with the local community and share what we do, and how we service the local community with every aspect of St John not just the Ambulance service. We want to inform the community on

·         Our first responder app

·         Community Defibrillator project

·         Volunteering and training

·         Wide range of First Aid Courses

·         Kit Servicing

·         Country Youth Ambulance Officer Program

·         Regional Ambulance Service

All with a tour of our depot to give the public an insider’s view on what happens when an emergency call comes in, right through the process to taking a patient to hospital. We have opportunities to talk to Paramedics as well as volunteers to ask questions.  Other affiliating agencies will be attending such as WAPOL and DFES and Road wise giving information out in regards to their service and working with St Johns to demonstrate a car accident simulation.

St John is proud of the services we provide to our community, and we are proud of our community and want to be able to engage and support Kalgoorlie and the Goldfields as much as we can."

This is a free community event for everyone from 10am - 3pm January 19 at the SJA Depot next to Usher Park
