Surprise! We're Getting A New Ghostbusters Sequel - And There's A Trailer To Prove It
By son of original director
They ain't afraid of no sequel.
The son of the original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman has pulled off a big ol' surprise today, announcing that not only is he working on a new sequel but also dropping a teaser trailer to boot.
Jason Reitman - who is such a mega-fan, his Twitter bio lists an acting credit of "Brownstone Boy #2" from Ghostbusters II - revealed that the third instalment in the franchise will continue where the second movie left off, a full 30 years later.
"I've always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan, when I was a six-year-old visiting the set," he said. "I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans.
"This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the '80s happened in the '80s, and this is set in the present day."
And if the 45-second trailer is anything to go by, it'll be sticking to tradition.
There's no word yet on whether original cast members Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson or Bill Murray will appear in the sequel, either as a main character or a cameo.
The fourth member of the Ghostbusters, Harold Ramis, died in 2014 as a result of an auto-immune disease.
Ghostbusters III is slated for a mid-2020 release, with shooting expected to start in the coming months.
