Former Wyong mayor Greg Best has delivered a radical proposal to the council in a bid to prevent further rate rises and council asset sales.

Mr Best has written to council’s Administrator Rik Hart with a suggestion to lease the highly valuable Buttonderry Waste Management Facility to commercial waste operators, potentially bringing in hundreds of millions in cash and revenue for the council.

One of the largest council-owned landfills in the country, the suspended Central Coast councillor told the Express he wants to tap into the “mega asset and monetise its value, through seeking waste industry Expressions of Interest around possible joint venturing or leasing,”

“Here is a genuine alternative to rate rises and selling off the farm. There should be a conversation around this idea”

- Greg Best

In the meantime, Central Coast council have received more than 800 submissions for their asset sales program, hoping to abscond from their current financial pickle.
