New South Wales travel restrictions is set to impact both Sydney and GWS, who have left the state for this weekend's matches to avoid current government circumstances.

Both Sydney Swans and Greater Western Sydney Giants will take a charter flight to Melbourne on Tuesday night, amid concerns that NSW will shut their border as a result of dealing with the current COVID numbers.

The Giants match was originally scheduled at their home venue, and will now be played at the MCG on Sunday against the Hawks.

It's expected to be one of five matches planned for a return to Melbourne in round 15.

Crowd capacity is yet to be confirmed, with the Victorian government expected to announce further easing of restrictions on Wednesday.

Sydney will set up base in Melbourne, as they prepare for a 'fly-in, fly-out' match against Port Adelaide on Saturday night, awaiting approval from South Australian government.

Swans coach John Longmire isn't concerned about the job they are set to embark on.

"It can be done," Longmire said.

"It's obviously different preparation.

"We had some experience of that last year - not quite to the extent that those teams had (in regards to) the hours that you spend at the ground.

"But we had some experience of it last year, it's not completely foreign. In the end you've just got to roll the sleeves up and get the job done."
