Sydney has locked down young gun Nick Blakey with a two-year contract extension - before he's even played a game.

Blakey was only drafted in November but has already committed to staying at the Swans until the end of 2022, according to Cal Twomey at AFL.com.au.

Players are given mandatory two year contracts once drafted, but the Swans were keen to ensure a lengthier stay for Blakey after he nominated them ahead of North Melbourne ahead of the draft.

Blakey was eligible for the Roos and Brisbane due to his father John, who played 359 games across for North and Fitzroy.

Ultimately he plumped for Sydney — he was eligible for them as an academy prospect — and was taken at pick 10 after GWS bid for him.
