Sydney Public Transport Is Absolutely Stuffed This Morning So Here's What You Need To Know

Commuters should prepare for chaos as heavy rain and damaging winds lash Sydney this morning.

Sydney has copped more than a month's worth of rain in just two hours on Wednesday morning, as a series of severe thunderstorms hitting the coast.

More than 95mm of rain had fallen at Observatory Hill in Sydney's CBD by 7.50am - eclipsing the November average of 83.8mm.

The NSW State Emergency Service had received more almost 260 calls for help by 7am, including 11 flood rescues.

Flooding has also forced the cancellation of trains between Sydenham and Campsie and light rail services, while ferries between Parramatta and Sydney Olympic Park have been cancelled; dozens of roads across the city have been shut due to flash flooding.

The heavy rain isn't expected to ease until early Wednesday evening, but damaging winds could hang around until Thursday.

Here’s what you need to know:  

TRAINS

Trains have resumed between Sydenham and Campsie on the T3 Bankstown Line following flooding at Marrickville earlier. 

Passengers are advised to allow additional travel time, listen to announcements and check indicator boards as services return to normal.

A number of other public transport services are still being affected by flooding:

• Parramatta River ferries are not running between Parramatta and Sydney Olympic Park as the weir has overflowed. Buses are being organised to replace services but are yet to arrive
• No Light Rail services are running between Central and Dulwich Hill due to flooding in a number of locations, with replacement buses being organised
• On the T1 North Shore Line, passengers are advised to allow additional travel time due to the wet weather conditions
• There are also a number of bus delays through suburbs including Pymble, Strathfield, Homebush and Turramurra

Passengers are advised to allow plenty of additional time travelling on the public transport network.

ROADS

• The Western Distributor is closed westbound on the Anzac Bridge in Pyrmont. Traffic is being diverted onto Pyrmont Bridge Road. 
• Pittwater Road is closed southbound in Brookvale at Epping Road. Consider using Wicks Road instead.
• Parramatta Road is closed in both directions in North Strathfield between Concord Road and George Street. Motorists are advised to use the M4 instead.
• In Mascot, there is no access from O'Riordan Street to the Domestic Terminal due to flooding under the trail bridge. Divert at King Street
• From Sydenham to St Peters, northbound traffic is being affected on the Princes Highway between Railway Parade and Canal Road
• Northbound traffic on the Princes Highway in Sutherland is also being affected approaching President Avenue
• In Roseville, two of three northbound lanes of Warringah Road are closed on Roseville Bridge
• One of four northbound lanes is closed on Wattle Street in Ultimo at Thomas Street
• In Macquarie Park, the M2 westbound on-ramp from Lane Cove Road is being affected. Motorists should use the Delhi Road on-ramp instead. Additionally, westbound traffic is being affected on Epping Road at Whiteside Street, North Ryde as well as Lane Cove Road southbound at Waterloo Road
• In Thornleigh, one of three northbound lanes is closed on Pennant Hills Road at Nelson Street. In Pennant Hills, all southbound lanes have reopened on Pennant Hills Road at Beecroft Road after earlier flooding
• Westbound traffic is back to normal on the Great Western Highway in Springwood after earlier flooding and a landslide

Motorists are reminded to never drive through floodwaters.

There are also a number of traffic lights blacked out and flashing yellow in a number of suburbs across Sydney.

FERRY SERVICES

Ferries have been affected by the wild weather, with F3 Parramatta River services cancelled due to overflowing at the weir.

Replacement buses have been organised and will travel from Rydalmere to Parramatta and then to Sydney Olympic Park.
