A new Tassie voucher program aims to encourage people from South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland to holiday on the Apple Isle.

Interstate travellers will go in the running to receive $300 vouchers for months during November and December, says minister for Tourism Sarah Courtney.

The travel incentive is designed to stimulate interstate visitors, after months of border closures.

“We know that visitors from Victoria and New South Wales traditionally make up 70 per cent of total interstate visitation to Tasmania, and the ongoing border restrictions with these markets have significantly impacted our visitor economy,” Ms Courtney said.

“This program is expected to stimulate travel from interstate markets that currently have open borders with Tasmania, providing vital economic support for our accommodation, tours, and attractions sector.”

The vouchers will be issued through a voting system, successful recipients can book their flights and redeem the voucher discount through a Tassie Holiday Voucher online marketplace.
The $3m program is being supported by the Federal government.
The vouchers will be available for use between November 4 and December 31. Businesses need to apply to take part via an online process until October 18.
