NSW Police have charged a youth following the destruction of two murals in Newtown yesterday.

At approximately 7pm on Monday evening, it was reported to police that two males were defacing a mural on the external wall of a hotel in King Street, Newtown.

A 16-year-old male was spotted by patrol officers damaging a second mural on Bray Street, Erskineville.

He was taken to Newtown Police Station and was charged with two counts of graffiti and possession of a graffiti implement.

The teen will appear in Children's Court on Tuesday.
