A teenager has been charged over an alleged bomb hoax that sent a Helensvale school into lockdown yesterday.

Police confirmed a 17-year-old boy was arrested following the incident on Tuesday, after a number of threatening messages were allegedly left on the school's answering machine.

He was charged with a number of offences including bomb hoax, using a carriage service to make a threat and using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence.

The teenager will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
