Taylor Walker has said he'll contest the rough conduct charge handed down to him over the weekend.

Adelaide Crows co-cpatain Taylor Walker was charged with rough conduct after a first quarter incident during the Crows' JLT Community Series match against rivals Port Adelaide in Port Pirie on Saturday.

The incident with the Power's Riley Bonner was assessed as careless conduct with low impact to the head, with the incident classified as an offence carrying a $3000 sanctions - with Walker eligible to accept a $2000 fine with an early plea.

But speaking this morning on Triple M Adelaide, Walker told Roo & Ditts that he will be contesting the charge.

"I'm gonna fight it," Walker said.

"It's part of our game.

"I text (Crows General Manager of Football Operations) Phil Harper this morning, I'm assuming (the appeal) will happen today because we have to play Friday."

Walker said it was ultimately up to him, not the coach or club, to decide whether to contest a charge or not.

If the appeal fails, Walker will be forced to pay the $3000 fine.
