The path that Anthony Milford must tread to return to the NRL appears a little clearer with Triple M NRL insider Dobbo reporting that the 193-game veteran will join the Newcastle Knights in 2022 en route to the Dolphins.

On Tuesday, Dobbo reported that Milford would reunite with Wayne Bennett in 2023 at Redcliffe but the currently clubless twenty-seven year old will need to play his football at the highest level possible this year if he wants to join the NRL’s expansion side – enter the Knights.

Speaking on The Rush Hour Dobbo told listeners that Milford will not play for South Sydney this season after his contract was not honoured following being charged with three counts of assault and one count of damaging property. However, a move North is on the cards.

“The Newcastle twelve-month deal is a lock” Dobbo told The Rush Hour

“He’ll play at Newcastle this year but he will defintely be a Dolphin next year – that deal is done”

According to Dobbo, Milford has been training the house down with a highly regarded conditioning coach in his time away from the game and believes that he can fill the void for Newcastle left by Mitchell Pearce’s departure.
