AFL Captains' Day always produces some interesting results.

AFL.com.au spoke to the captains, and found out the weirdest and best nicknames from around the clubs.

Adelaide captain Rory Sloane revealed that Hugh Greenwood is known as Mick Fanning "since he had the shark encounter, so a few boys are calling him Mick. He wasn't a hero like Mick – didn't punch it or fight it off. "

Other ones include Scott Lycett being known as Ly-chat, Nick Blakely being known as Lizard ("because he looks like a lizard off Men in Black") and Gary Rohan being known as Chucky, after the Rugrats character.

The one that takes the cake, though, is Melbourne's Max Gawn revealing that Marty Hore is called 'Marty Hore' by everyone at the club. Truly creative.

The reasoning? "Marty Hore is such a good name to say in full 10 times quickly, it’s beautiful. So he actually gets his full name, which is quite good."

A fair few of the nicknames are self-proclaimed, which really shouldn't fly.
