Australia's second deadliest cancer

It may only be March, but the good people at Bowel Cancer Australia are already urging for people to sign up for Bowel Cancer Awareness month, which lands for the length of June each and every year.

We only found this out ourselves, but bowel cancer is Australia's second deadliest cancer. Every week, bowel cancer claims the lives of over 103 Australians.

It's such a worry that the government sends out free testing kits to anyone over the age of 50 every two years. The kits detect microscopic blood for abnormalities and require a follow up with a physician if detected.

And here's the kicker... apparently, the participation rate for said tests are only around the 40% mark.

That's only 4 out of every 10 people over 50 who are choosing to test for the potential onset of bowel cancer.

So, seeing June will be here before we know it, they're on the case now, asking for people to sign up and get ready for not only the month of June, but also for their flagship day, Red Apple Day, Wednesday, 19 June 2019.
