Every day tradies across Sydney face  risks on site, but as one Moonman In The Morning listener brought to our attention, none quite as deadly over time as Silicosis.

Silicosis is an incurable disease of the lung which uniquely affects tradespeople working with silica based construction materials such as sandstone, granite, tiles, brick and concrete that, when drilled or cut, release tiny particles of silica that are then breathed in.

Triple M listener Shane Parata recently lost his brother to the disease aged only 36, and has now been diagnosed himself.

He spoke to the team at Moonman In The Morning urging stonecutters to reconsider their careers, despite himself spending 15 years in the trade.

HEAR SHANE’S PLEA TO STONEMASONS:

Shane went on to speak about how this disease has affected himself and his family, and the shocking way his previous employers have tried to sweep the issue under the rug.

LISTEN TO SHANE’S FULL STORY:
