Calling all local, non-for-profit groups from around town! How would you like some extra cash to help out your next event, purchase some equipment or develop your facilities?

The Community Grant Program is the Esperance Shire’s opportunity to invest back into the grassroots organisations and support community activity. The program has been running for 20 years and has helped a variety of clubs, groups with their projects including:

  • Buying a drone for the Esperance Volunteer Sea Search and Rescue team
  • Table tennis tables for the Esperance Table Tennis Club
  • Kick Arts holiday program for the Cannery Arts Centre
  • Esperance Foreshore Festival and Fireworks for the Rotary Club of Esperance Bay

Shire President Victoria Brown spoke about funding recipients last year.

“This year’s program received some excellent applications. We also recognised that some our community groups are really feeling the pressure of attracting members, volunteers and funding and want to acknowledge the great work they do in our community.”

“It’s important that we continue to have strong community groups, to help make Esperance the place we all want to live in, with opportunities for all to be involved. Whilst we wish we could support every application, we were unable to approve them all.”

Over $150,000 was given out through the fund last year.

There are a whole bunch of categories that group reps can apply for, from smaller projects with grant assistance up to $1,000, to bigger developments or plans that need $5,000 and beyond.

Rebecca Senior is the Shire’s Community Operations Manager, and spoke to Sean on the Breakfast Show.

The application process is extensive, so give yourself a couple days to complete it. Application forms must be in before April 15, so get on to it as soon as possible!
