The Mackay Regional Council have officially decided to keep the Mackay war memorial swimming pool in Milton street. 

Thanks to the tenacious efforts of the Mackay War Memorial Community Action Group, the pool which initially opened in 1963, will remain on Milton street for the foreseeable future.

The pool, which often hosts emergency service workers for planned training, has received ample support from respected members of the community such as World War II air force hero Terry Hayes. 

Jay and Dave touch base with Sue Willett from the community action group who explains why the preservation of the pool is an imperative piece of Mackay history.

While happy with the final outcome, Sue still believes that for the pool to maintain longevity and to increase patronage, there will need to be substantial upgrades made to the facility.
