If there’s any doubt lingering whether Billy Slater is worth the price his management has been asking to take the helm of the Maroons then look no further than the testimony of his former teammate.

After Paul Green ‘stepped down’ from the position last week it leaves Queensland in the unenviable position of searching for its fourth coach in four years, however after months of speculation the revered full-back looks set to take charge.

Speaking on The Rush Hour Queenslander with Dobbo former Cowboys captain and Maroons star Michael Morgan gave a glowing endorsement for Slater’s credentials as the next man to lead the side into the Origin arena after having played under him during his stint as an assistant to Kevin Walters.

Queensland has won one of the past three origin series, the last being in 2020 after Wayne Bennett stepped in at the eleventh hour to lead the Maroons to the unlikeliest of victories.
