The sad news that over 150 whales have stranded themselves at Hamelin Bay this morning carries a tragic, bizarre coincidence within it.

On this same day, nine years ago on the 23rd of March, a pod of whales also stranded themselves at the very same beach.

Of course, that's a mystery that we no doubt think will have scientists and marine biologists scratching their collective heads, and we can only hope that it may provide a clue as to why these beautiful creatures do what they sadly do, sometimes.

In today's instance, reportedly many locals have rocked up to volunteer their time and manpower to try and save as many whales as they can... sadly, we believe around half of the mammals have already died.
