The Weird And Expensive Stuff Men Buy During A Mid Life Crisis

Men will splash out an average of $3,667 during a midlife crisis, with the panic setting in for most men at age 47, according to new research.

Healthspan Ubiquinol found the most common purchase was a  flashy holiday, with the more unusual purchases including a $3,134 albino python, a $121,875 car and a $3,482 Armani suit, The Sun reports.

Men are also likely to buy designer clothes, a motorbike, music festival tickets, get inked up with a new tattoo, or buy a gym membership.

“Reaching midlife can act as a significant milestone for many men and is a time when some men become keenly aware of their own mortality,” psychologist Dr. Meg Arroll said.

“This can result in a profound sense of turmoil and confusion as life may not have turned out as envisaged (it rarely does).”

Dr Meg Arroll said some men coped with their feelings around the issue by making “life-changing” decisions around relationships and money.

“However, this period of introspection doesn’t necessarily have to be negative – for some men, middle age can in fact be positive, leading to more time spent with family, health kicks and getting back to once loved hobbies.” she said.
