"This Is A Joke": Brad Ebert Isn't A Fan Of The New 50m Interpretation

Port Adelaide veteran Brad Ebert is not a fan of the AFL's new 50 metre penalty interpretation.

The AFL has introduced nine new rules for the 2019 season including a tinker to the 50m rule.

The 50m rule stipulates "the player with the ball must allowed to advance the mark by 50m without the infringing player delaying the game, and will be able to play on while the 50m penalty is being measured out."

Several "100 metre penalties" have been handed out over the JLT Community Series, with players and commentators alike condemning the new interpretation and labelling it as an "unfair penalty".

Speaking to Roo & Ditts on Triple M Adelaide this morning, Port Adelaide veteran Brad Ebert labelled the new rule as "confusing".

"I was standing next to Scott Thompson and the Kangaroos had the free kick," Ebert said.

"And he said, 'Mate, this a joke'.

"Hopefully it's just one of those rules that they overadjudicate to start the season and then they make an amends to it".
