This morning's Council meeting was abruptly ended just 2 minutes in, following an interruption from community group member Alistair Rankin protesting the construction of a bridge set to link Holloways Beach to Machans Beach.

Triple M's Bec Dent caught up with Cairns Regional Council Mayor Bob Manning to find out what happened, including how Council members walked out during Mr Rankin's speech, turning off the lights behind them.

Council member Lea Guy explained that "as per the Standing Orders for Council meetings, a meeting must be adjourned in the event of disorderly conduct by a member of the public. Mr Rankin was asked to resume his seat and refused, continuing to speak loudly over others. This constitutes disorderly conduct."

Ms Guy continued that this was not Mr Rankin's first engagement in regard to the projects, and furthermore assured that Council Officers have held numerous meetings with members of the public, including Mr Rankin, both formal and informal, and have responded to all email correspondence with Mr Rankin. She reiterated that consultation and communication regarding the Northern Beaches Leisure Trail would continue to be conducted throughout the project.
