This week is national volunteer week and we are encouraging people to get out and help their community.

Vanessa Codling, marketing manager for Volunteering Queensland said that volunteering helps to change lives and a number of communities rely on volunteers to stay healthy and strong.

"All sorts of people volunteer, the largest group is parents with children at home, but we are seeing an increasing number of young people getting involved," Codling said.

She also said that Volunteering can help you get your foot in the door and then possibly land a job.

"I started volunteering at Volunteering Queensland before that led to a position in the marketing team here," Codling said.

Volunteering helps with many social, cultural, environmental and economic impacts where people do whatever needs to be done to make a difference.

"If you're not a volunteer yourself, at some point in your life you're going to receive help from a volunteer," Codling said.

If you're interested in volunteering you can see a list of opportunities here
