"Thunderstorms could roll over the Illawarra in the early afternoon, and push through to Sydney by mid to late afternoon," a weatherzone spokesperson said.

"We are expecting the possibility of more thunderstorms on Wednesday, and even Thursday and looking into Friday so each afternoon the next couple of days we could see some thunderstorms."

The stormy weather is expected to subside by Saturday, where temperatures will climb to 35C in the west.
