A toddler has been bitten on the face by two off-leash dogs at a park in Sydney's inner west.

The incident happened at 10.30am today at Turrella Reserve, with the two-year-old girl sustaining puncture wounds to her shoulders and head.

It is understood that the dogs were American bulldogs, and attacked the child while she was being pushed in a pram by her mother.

The mother held the baby up out of reach to try to stop the attack, with bystanders restraining the dogs.

The child has been taken to St George Hospital in a stable condition.

The dogs have been taken by the council.
