Hot Breakfast chief footy reporter Tom Browne has explained how Josh Kelly unique contract extension at GWS will affect other negotiations going forward.

LISTEN HERE:

Kelly’s new contract is for two years — taking him to 2021 when he’ll activate restricted free agency — with a “six or eight-year option to follow”.

Browne said that the structure of the deal will be of interest to clubs as they try to long-term deals with their own star players.

“Other clubs will look at this for their stars,” Browne said.

“For example Essendon by the end of the next year will want to sign up Joe Daniher for example, they’ll start to look at those talks relatively soon.

“All the clubs will start to look at this as a means of perhaps giving their players more wiggle room.”
