Hot Breakfast chief footy reporter Tom Browne says that there’s a chance Essendon forward Devon Smith may miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
“Some whispers around all week about the extent of Devon Smith’s knee injury at the Bombers,” Browne said.
“The Bombers said it’s six to eight weeks if he needs surgery when he sees his surgeon on Monday.
“I heard he could miss the rest of the season, and I’ve worked out why.”
“He’s got an underlying knee issue that at some point in the next four years — the Bombers are aware of this — will require a knee reconstruction.
“It relates to an underlying PCL — posterior cruciate ligament — issue that’s gotta get fixed at some point.
“He’s injured the same knee, in a different spot, which is the latest problem.”
Smith has played 29 games since coming to Essendon in the 2017 trade period, and won the Crichton Medal as the Bombers’ best and fairest last year.
