Asbestos has been illegally dumped at Morisset, prompting authorities to launch an investigation to find the culprit.
It was discovered in about 10 tonnes of demolition waste left on a local street late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.
The waste appears to have come from a fire-damaged property, possibly from the Central Coast or Newcastle.
The Hunter Central Coast Regional Illegal Dumping Squad is investigating the dump.
“We have obtained some identifiable material in the form of painted items and examples of lino flooring from the dump site,” RID Squad coordinator Rob Robertson said.
“I am confident that when the right person sees these items, they will be recognised and lead us to the source of this material.”
